Hello everyone, thank you for taking the time to read this article on the basics of Evolutionary Astrology, and how it differs from other forms of Astrology. If you prefer the video format, feel free to watch the video I did on my YouTube channel here.
So, you might be asking, what is Evolutionary Astrology, and how can it help me? Well stick around and I will gladly fill you in.
Evolutionary Astrology is a form of Modern Western Astrology that branched off from Psychological Astrology. Evolutionary Astrology branches off even further seeing that one of the so-called founders of Evolutionary Astrology, Jeffrey Wolf Green focused on the Planet Pluto. Green saw Pluto as the soul itself, and I am not as well versed in Green’s theories (Though I soon hope to be) I’m more acquainted with another entrepreneur of Evolutionary Astrology, Steven Forrest. Forrest has the North and South Node’s of the Moon as the centerpiece to his work. While it’s not dogmatic in nature, Evolutionary Astrology is heavily based on the belief of reincarnation and cumulative karma that the soul obtains lifetime after lifetime.
The South Node of the Moon
Maybe you’re Christian, or even an Atheist and are not comfortable with toying around with the idea of reincarnation and karma? Not to worry, as I said there is no required belief system surrounding Evolutionary Astrology. It’s applicable to everyone! Back to the Nodes of the Moon. Unlike The Sun or Mercury, the South Node is not a planet, but rather a point in the heavens that doesn’t actually take up space. In other forms of Astrology, the Nodes of the Moon are often seen with little to no importance. In Evolutionary Astrology however, the South Node is seen as a point of contention. Many of your nasty habits and skills that you might be proficient in often lie in the South Node, but overall are holding you back; stifling your soul from growing and reaching its full potential.

Another thing that differentiates Modern Astrology, including Evolutionary Astrology from the ancient teachings is that we tend to stray from what is seen as “good” and what is “bad.” While the South Node isn’t inherently negative in itself, it is often an exception to this rule and is generally not looked at in a positive light. As aforementioned, the South Node is an accumulation of dark nasty habits that we picked up from life's prior. Not digging the whole reincarnation vibe? Look at the South Node as something you might be naturally good at, but is oddly setting you back. These tendencies are often done unconsciously, and we might not notice what we are doing until others point them out. This can cause someone to have lost relationships, led to incarceration, or a whole plethora of not-so-feel-good things. Maybe you see these unwanted tendencies, or others have pointed them out and bridges have been burned. What can I do to remedy this? Glad you asked. That’s where the North Node of the Moon comes into play!
The North Node of the Moon
Maybe you are unfortunate enough to have lost your spouse to a compulsive gambling problem. You squandered your life savings and lost the house. Perhaps he/she took off with the kids and the family dog. Now you're sitting in your overly-worn tighty-whities, binge drinking your 21st beer while watching infomercials at 3:00am. You soon have to report to your soul-sucking job that you spent a small fortune getting an education for in three hours. Has all hope been lost? It’s conceivable to think that you stayed sober long enough to take a good look at yourself and see where things went wrong. If not, book your Astrology reading
here! No need to fret. We took a look at the South Node, now let’s take a gander 180 degrees across your Birthchart and examine the North Node.

The South Node is the source of these habits and compulsions that we have gained lifetime after lifetime and have a need to get away from. The North Node on the other hand is something that often feels foreign. Maybe you had this inkling as a child, at a time when you were able to imagine and dream. A voice, or a calling that over the years society has taught you to suppress because there was no major for it at your local university. This rumination that was deemed impractical might just be a path not yet forged. You can look at the South Node as an overworked muscle that is getting too big and strong, and now is putting strain on your weaker, underworked muscles. Eventually you're going to have a tear. So don’t skip leg day bro. The weak muscle you have been long ignoring is the North Node.
Steven Forrest calls the North Node simply a good idea. It’s something that might cross your mind that you are too afraid to do. That feeling you get when aspiring for your North Node may feel uncomfortable, but it’s natural and necessary. The North Node is a blind spot in your chart. It’s something that you need to strive for and work towards. It might be the most unpleasant feeling in the world, but take the Saturnine lesson and put your nose to the grindstone and power through it. You might be asking, how do I know what I am supposed to do? Well, the easy answer is… it’s up to you to figure that out. No need to fear! You can always book a consultation with an Evolutionary Astrologer, such as myself and get the guidance you seek!
Can you Give me an Example of a Nodal Analysis?
Sure! Thought you would never ask! Not to toot my own horn too much, but there is no one I know better than…myself. I have to admit, I was skeptical of the whole past lives thing personally, then I started analyzing charts, and the theory oddly started making sense… I did a Birthchart reading for this ENTJ woman, H
er South Node was conjunct Pluto and Saturn in the 5th House. One possibility would dictate that she has some sort of trauma (Pluto) or restriction (Saturn) around children (5th house) in a past life. It turns out, she had a past life regression where she was a malnourished Jewish woman in Nazi Germany. Not having proper nutrition, she had miscarriage after miscarriage. After finally being able to have a child, both were unfortunately taken to concentration camps, sadly to perish in the gas chamber.

My grandfather was a paratrooper in the US army during World War II and the Korean-American conflict. Evidently, serving in two wars was not enough to cease an insatiable desire to murder other humans. So after his long stint serving in the US Military, he became a mercenary. My grandfather died in a motorcycle accident shortly before I was born, so I never met the man myself. However, he was reported to have been a cruel son of a bitch. He would ride his motorcycle from Arizona down to South America through the blistering heat. Chile is where my grandfather met and grandmother and together, they returned back to the States. My grandfather abused my grandmother to the point where she had a psychotic break, and after my grandfather perished, my grandmother was institutionalized in her home country until her death. Their children were subject to abuse and were treated as if they were in boot camp. My father and his siblings were shot with BB guns and were
constantly interrogated “are you ready for war?” Unfortunately, this behavior trickled down from my father to me. While I am not exactly a walk in the park. I feel proud to say I seemed to have put an end to this long chain of generational trauma with my own son.
Where do I tie all of this into the equation? My South Node is in the 2nd House conjunct Mars in Sagittarius. While in Evolutionary Astrology, we tend to stray away from what's supposedly positive and negative, the South Node is the one exception to the rule. Mars in a negative slant is about anger, aggression, murder, conflict, or “toxic masculinity.” Sagittarius represents foreign cultures, lands, and long distance travel. Looking at the 2nd House, we would see such things as about basic resources and money. To put all these pieces into perspective, My past life story just might indicate that I traveled to foreign lands (Sagittarius) to murder foreign people (Mars with more Sagittarius) to fight for the most basic of resources, life (2nd house) and to get paid to do so. To add to the pot, both my Nodes are squared my Sun. In this case the Sun being squared to both nodes would indicate that I was held back or oppressed by some authority in previous incarnations. In my case, I believe I was under the influence of the military and the United States Government.

So, to say the least, in my last life, I strongly have the contrary evidence to suspect I was a real piece of shit. This go around on this spinning blue ball hasn’t been easy. Might I be paying for all the wrongdoings of my grandfather? That’s a tough titty to chew on. To say the least, I am kind of in a shitty situation, but not all hope is lost. What can I do to remedy all of this?
My North Node is in Gemini conjunct Chiron in the 8th House. The theme that we have here is a striving for an outlet for some sort of intellectual communication (Gemini) to share with the masses (8th house) to heal others (Chiron.) A South Node in Sagittarius in the 2nd House would signify that I have the capacity of having strong ideals and a closed mind. A Gemini North Node should push me to be more open and receptive of other people’s opinions and present a platform for others to share and express their own opinions.
While I heard of Astrology, and was receptive to the idea, I met an ENTJ online that was into Evolutionary Astrology. At the time, I was quite ignorant on the subject, but I hosted a YouTube Channel (Gemini) where I interviewed and researched Jungian Typology (very 8th house) and allowed people to speak their minds and present their own ideas and arguments. In other words, I was working towards my North Node unconsciously, and having my Birthchart read reaffirmed my mission statement in this life.
